Contributing report 2019
As the owners and managers of some of the best shopping centres in the UK, we play an important role in the prosperity and the wellbeing of the communities around our centres and the country. Research into the economic benefits of our portfolio has found that our destinations are worth nearly £5 billion to the economy and supported more than 130,000 jobs across the country last year.

Employment and skills
intu’s 17 UK shopping centres are home to over 3,500 stores nationwide and play an important role in providing employment opportunities and maintaining a healthy, prosperous local economy.
In six locations intu represent one of the largest local employers, providing at least six per cent of all jobs in the
local authority area.
Investing in our centres
We are transforming our centres to respond to the changing way people live, work and play. Our investment pipeline
ensures that our centres remain attractive destinations which create long-term prosperity for our communities.
Over the past five years we have invested a total of £569 million in major development and extension projects, including £100 million spent in 2019. This work included the redevelopment and extension of intu Watford and development of a new leisure offering at intu Lakeside.
We have a strong track record of operating responsibly and over the last 10 years have met stretching environmental and social targets. With our centres at the heart of their communities, we play a key role in bringing people together to create positive and lasting change.
In 2019, our total community investment reached £1.7 million measured through cash, in-kind and leveraged contributions. Our people donated nearly 13,000 hours last year to support a range of community causes from working with young people to getting their hands dirty improving the local environment and fundraising for charities.
