intu Metrocentre, Gateshead
The iconic intu Metrocentre is Europe’s largest covered shopping and leisure centre, attracting visitors from across the north east and as far afield as Edinburgh.
Since 2005, intu Metrocentre, just three miles from Newcastle upon Tyne, has been part of an ongoing £120 million investment programme. The UK’s first mega mall is a must-visit destination, meeting today’s shoppers’ increased expectations for a day-out, thanks to its blend of world-class shopping, dining and entertainment.
Our refurbishments and improvements include the extension in 2016 of the popular Qube leisure area, which houses an array of modern eateries and an Odeon IMAX cinema.
More recently, in 2018 saw the arrival of several new entrant retailers including Victoria's Secret, Skechers, G-Star and Jack Wills whilst Next opened their new flagship store in Green Mall.
In short, we’ve taken a very successful centre and made it even more successful to reflect today’s customers’ needs.

Next opens New Flagship Store
The fashion and homeware chain opens an impressive 78,000 sq ft flagship store over two levels.
It is more than double the size of Next’s former intu Metrocentre store and was officially opened on Tuesday (6th March) by Sir John Hall, whose company Cameron Hall Developments first developed the popular Gateshead shopping destination in the 1980s. The store boasts all of the latest fashion collections for womens, mens and childrenswear, a home department and a Costa Coffee.

With the opening in 2014 of Platinum Mall, intu created a new aspirational retail experience at intu Metrocentre.
Aimed specifically at quality retailers, Platinum Mall has created a high-end shopping arena to meet the needs of intu Metrocentre’s more affluent customer.
As part of a multi million investment programme since 2005, Platinum Mall demonstrates intu’s commitment to creating the right environment in which top brands can flourish.
