intu readies opening of multi-million-pound retail and leisure development
The £72 million retail and leisure development at intu Lakeside, which opens later this year, will introduce new restaurants and leisure brands to the south east of England; boosting the local economy with hundreds of new jobs across the leisure and hospitality sectors.
The development also features a series of outdoor spaces, the focal point of which will be a large town square and public space which will host an events programme. Colour changing lighting, video screens, speakers, a performance stage and water curtain are just some of the elements that have been installed within the space to entertain customers and provide them with a point of difference each time they visit.
Hollywood Bowl, the UK’s leading tenpin bowling business, will be the first brand to open its doors at what will be one of its biggest venues in the UK alongside a Nickelodeon-themed family entertainment centre, Puttshack mini golf, Flip Out trampolining and a host of new restaurants including Zizzi and TGI Fridays.
Rebecca Ryman, regional managing director for intu, said: “We’ve invested millions of pounds to create a game-changing leisure-led development which will transform intu Lakeside into the UK’s first retail resort. The existing centre is already a compelling place for customers to shop, eat and play and this development will further enhance our offering; enticing more customers from further afield and enabling our tenants to generate even greater results. This is an exciting time for intu Lakeside, and an even more exciting time for our current and future tenants, who are set to flourish as they become part of one of the largest retail and leisure attractions in the south east of England.”
intu Lakeside has seen significant investment from existing brands including Zara and River Island who have tripled and doubled their store space to create flagship stores ahead of the development opening.
