Our approach to CR
A strong culture, focused on delivering our purpose for our customers and retailers, for the environment and for society, helps us deliver our strategic objectives responsibly. We focus on growing our business while delivering positive change in our communities and operating with minimum impact on the environment. This brings value to both us and our stakeholders.
We are a people business. Strong relationships and trusted engagement with our wide range of stakeholders enables us to deliver our strategic objectives. Ultimately, we want our stakeholders to be advocates for our brand, which means nurturing and cultivating our relationships. A good reputation with all of our stakeholders is essential to building trusted and strong relationships.

A ten year partnership
Green Gyms® are conservation projects with a difference. This year, we celebrated ten years of our partnership with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV).
Nationwide Autism Hour
Quiet hours for autistic people were staged at intu’s busy shopping centres across the UK last summer for the country’s first nationwide ‘Autism Hour’, with the National Autistic Society.
Meeting our carbon targets ahead of time
We have achieved our 2020 carbon targets three years ahead of schedule, through a groundbreaking programme to install LED light bulbs throughout our centres. In 2012 we set ourselves the target of reducing our carbon footprint by 50 per cent, from our 2010 footprint. Lighting accounts for up to 50 per cent of energy use in retail spaces so this was identified as the most significant aspect to tackle. We installed over 60,000 energy efficient light bulbs in several phases, achieving savings in one phase before moving onto the next.We also introduced a new energy management system (ISO50,001) and appointed energy champions at each centre. We will now set ambitious new energy saving targets and have begun to trial onsite renewables at intu Chapelfield which we will roll out to other centres.
On your bike
intu Braehead is the first retail and leisure destination in the UK to equip security personnel with bicycles to help them get around the centres’ car parks, riverside boardwalk and pathways as part of an environmental initiative.
