Robots become a reality

BotsAndUs the developers of state of the art robotics and AI products, tell us about their ambition to create a world where humans and robots can seamlessly integrate

Are we ready for Robots?

At BotsAndUs we strongly believe in a world where humans and robots can collaborate seamlessly towards a better life and more efficient businesses. However, we didn't really feel like robots were actually ready to truly integrate into people's daily life hence a very slow uptake and even rejection from humans. So we decided to make them more accessible, useful and natural to interact with...

We consciously made the decision to be more than a robot producer. We put the user at the centre of human-robot-interaction and developed innovative technology by combining social sciences, human-centred design and cutting edge engineering. We wanted to create comfort with robots physically and emotionally, supporting their fast adoption and ongoing usage.

Why intu Accelerate?

We have been working on Bo – the retail robot for over 24 months and after successful pilots across events and showcase stores, he is ready to get to work in the complex world of shopping centres. The only missing link was the right partner to truly open the doors of its business and embrace Bo as a key pillar of its customer experience revolution.

Our main goal for participating in intu Accelerate is therefore accessing intu’s expert teams and prime locations; with their support we can test and refine Bo so that he can quickly become useful to customers within the shopping centre environment. Through the trials we’re running we can use real user feedback and customer experience to personalise Bo and offer a seamless technology.

On the business side, we feel we will learn immensely from intu’s wide experience across retail, understanding all aspects of sourcing suppliers and technology, optimising store layouts, working with partners and brands to increase footfall, customer loyalty and many more benefits. This will allow us to stress test our business plan and financials and therefore strengthen our proposition to customers, investors and internally.

Making a difference to the retail industry

We designed and developed Bo so he can bring more fun and inspiration to British retail while getting people of all backgrounds used to the idea of robots roaming among them to support their needs.

On a practical level, Bo will attract more customers to shopping centres and the stores/experiences within, driven by sheer human curiosity; he will help them save time and money (quickly and easily finding what they need as well as be inspired by the latest offers and ideas) and most importantly, he will encourage repeat visits and advocacy for all ages and demographics. In parallel, the real time data he captures and reports on will inform instant changes to point of sale and channel marketing, opening up new interaction points between customers and businesses as well as increasing efficiency and spend.

Bringing to life the potential

Bo represents the future of customer and guest services and has already attracted the attention of event organisers, hotel and restaurant groups as well as various retailers globally that can't wait to get Bo in their doors. With the variety of use cases for him as well as the opportunities of using his human-robot-interaction capabilities on other platforms, we are tapping into a market of over $30bn.
